Far-right rally in Tbilisi protests Emirati Eagle Hills $6 billion development plan

A far-right rally organized by Alt Info’s political arm, the Conservatives for Georgia party, took place on Liberty Square in Tbilisi and proceeded to the Holy Trinity Cathedral. Speakers, including Irakli Martinenko and his brother Shota, condemned the ruling Georgian Dream party and called for patriotic citizens to occupy the streets in defense of national territory. The demonstrators opposed a $6 billion investment by the Emirati firm Eagle Hills, which plans two major developments on Krtsanisi Forest Park and in Gonio near Batumi, labeling the scheme as “Arab cities.”

The government has offered no details, prompting concerns about secrecy, environmental damage and who will inhabit the new districts. The ruling party dismissed the criticism as xenophobic, while other civil groups have organized parallel protests and petitions demanding public consent. Similar Eagle Hills projects have previously sparked unrest in Albania, Hungary and Serbia, underscoring regional unease over large foreign real-estate ventures.
