Farage aide concedes slip on £5m Brexit gift in undercover video

Dan Jukes, a close aide to Nigel Farage, appears in undercover footage admitting that the claim the £5 million gift was a Brexit reward was not the official line.

New undercover footage captures Dan Jukes, a senior aide to Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, conceding that the assertion the £5 million gift was a “thank you for Brexit” was not the line approved by the party’s press office. The sum, said to have come from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne, is under investigation by the Standards Commissioner for possible failure to declare it ahead of the 2024 general election. Jukes, who stepped down after a Channel 4/Verbatim sting that suggested he discussed evading foreign-donation rules, told the reporter he would gladly accept a personal, unconditional £5 million gift and that the earlier explanation was a slip.

Labour chair Bridget Phillipson criticised Farage’s shifting explanations and called for a clear public account. The episode adds to mounting pressure on Reform UK, which also faces a documentary alleging sexist and racist comments by its members, while Scotland Yard probes the donation-law allegations.

Why it matters

It highlights potential breaches of UK donation rules and raises questions about political transparency.
