A two-year financial controversy surrounds Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. He claimed to have exchanged contracts for a house in his Essex constituency, yet records show the detached property was bought solely by his girlfriend Laure Ferrari, raising concerns about stamp-duty avoidance. In 2024 Farage accepted a £5 million gift from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne, insisting it was a personal, non-political transaction and therefore not required to be declared.
The Metropolitan Police are investigating £500,000 donations from Fiona Cottrell, whose son George Cottrell, a U.S.-convicted fraudster, transferred more than $2 million to her before the donations, suggesting possible concealment of impermissible foreign funding. A £1 million deposit from Cottrell to a company run by Reform deputy leader Richard Tice and large contributions from crypto figures Ben Delo and Harborne have been reported to the National Crime Agency.
After undercover footage alleged a plot to bypass electoral donation rules, Reform suspended two senior officials. Farage maintains the party has broken no rules.
