Farage’s £5m donor Christopher Harborne ties UK politics to global arms deals

A Guardian probe shows that Christopher Harborne, a private-wealth tycoon residing in Thailand, has built a network of arms-related enterprises, including a jet-fuel contractor serving US military bases and a 15% share in QinetiQ, the former UK Ministry of Defence research arm. Former army officers, Royal Navy veterans and a former MI6 officer sit on the boards of his companies. Harborne has supplied Reform UK with roughly two-thirds of its funding and gave Nigel Farage an undeclared £5 million gift, prompting an MPs’ watchdog inquiry.
Reform’s election platform now proposes increased defence budgets and tax breaks for the sector, policies that could align with Harborne’s interests. Both Harborne’s legal team and Reform officials assert that no political influence has been exerted, but the overlap has drawn heightened scrutiny.
