Farage’s cash-filled antics expose risky ties between UK politics and crypto donors

Nigel Farage has been paid for cameo videos and gold promotions while Reform UK receives £72 million from cryptocurrency billionaires, raising concerns about the influence of wealthy donors on British politics.

Nigel Farage has monetised his public profile by recording paid Cameo videos, including one that featured the IRA chant “Up the Ra” and another endorsing a man convicted of violent disorder at a 2024 far-right riot. In parallel, Reform UK announced that cryptocurrency billionaires Christopher Harborne and Ben Delo each contributed £36 million, despite Harborne’s secret £5 million donation earlier in 2024 and Delo’s 2022 conviction for breaching US anti-money-laundering rules, for which he was later pardoned by Donald Trump.

Farage also received a £270,000 fee to promote gold bullion and continues to host shows on GB News, a channel owned by Paul Marshall, whose past tweets praising far-right and anti-immigrant rhetoric were highlighted by Hope Not Hate. After the scrutiny, former a editor at one outlet labelled Marshall “unfit to be a media mogul.” The article situates these financial flows within a wider context of wealthy donors, including Russian oligarchs funding Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding, suggesting a pattern of opaque money influencing political narratives in the UK and beyond.

Why it matters

It highlights how large crypto and foreign donations could shape UK political discourse and policy.
