Farmer killed in Kanpur after reporting knife assault to police

Girja Shankar Nishad, a 25-year-old farmer from Wajidpur village in the Chaubepur area of Kanpur, was shot dead around 9:30 pm after he and his elder brother Rampal visited the local police station to report a knife attack. While standing outside his home, he was confronted by fellow villager Kuldeep Nishad, who allegedly drew a country-made pistol and fired three rounds, grazing Nishad, wounding his right hand and striking his chest, leading to severe bleeding.

Nishad died on the way to the hospital. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) SM Qasim Abidi indicated that the killing is tied to an old rivalry between the families and that police teams are now pursuing the accused. Although a case has been registered, no one has been arrested so far, and officials say the village’s overall security remains unchanged.
