A family on a hike near the Savica waterfall in the Bohinj region stopped at a rest point when the seven-year-old child strayed from the group and fell into a deep gorge. Hearing his cries, the father chased after him and also slipped into the gorge. Nearby mountain rescue units, conducting drills at the time, responded promptly and descended to the bottom where they found the father and child.
The father died from his injuries at the scene, while the child, badly hurt, was evacuated by helicopter to a hospital in Ljubljana. Police are investigating the circumstances and have notified the prosecutor's office. The family members involved are foreign nationals.
