Father and son charged with murdering 22-year-old woman in alleged honour killing
Police say a 22-year-old woman from Sarkhej was killed by her father and brother after a viral video sparked family outrage.
Sofia Farooq, 22, worked as a receptionist at a Juhapura hospital and was reportedly killed by her father, Mohammed Farooq Nawabkhan, 56, and his son, Habil Farooq, 38. After a video of Sofia with a male friend spread online, the family allegedly reprimanded her and later lured her onto a motorcycle to a remote area near Gheljipura in Sarkhej. Habil, who had hidden an iron hammer in his trousers, is said to have struck Sofia on the head three times while her father assisted.
The victims were then placed on a public road to mimic a collision with an unidentified vehicle. Police uncovered the fabricated accident story and registered a murder charge against the father-son duo. Inspector U B Dhakada of the M Division traffic police disclosed the findings.
