Father claims handgun mishap wounded wife and 4-year-old daughter in Deltona
A man in Deltona told police his handgun discharged accidentally, injuring his wife and their four-year-old daughter.
Authorities in Volusia County are probing an incident in which a Deltona resident claimed his handgun unintentionally fired while he was preparing it for a shooting range. The discharge occurred just before 10 a.m. on Saturday, striking both his wife and their four-year-old daughter. When police arrived, the father was carrying the child, who displayed visible chest and arm injuries, while the mother was found inside with a towel covering a leg wound.
Both victims remained alert; first responders applied tourniquets and a chest seal to the girl before transporting them—the child was airlifted to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer and the mother to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital. The sheriff’s office stated that the facts and evidence indicate an accidental shooting, and as of Sunday no criminal charges have been filed.
