Father of Two Fatally Shot in Park; Hospital Lockdown Follows Violent Confrontation

A Long Island father was killed in a targeted park shooting, and a fight involving his friend and police forced a nearby hospital into lockdown.

A Long Island father of two was shot in what officials describe as a targeted attack at a local park and was pronounced dead at NYU Langone-Suffolk in East Patchogue. Suffolk Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina indicated that the shooter and the victim were acquainted and that surveillance footage captured the suspect fleeing in a red sedan. No arrests have been made, and detectives are urging anyone with tips to contact the homicide squad.

Shortly after the incident, the victim’s friend, Emmanuel Mayo, pursued the case to the hospital, where he pushed an officer and resisted arrest, prompting a lockdown of the facility. Mayo was subsequently charged with second-degree harassment and resisting arrest. A memorial was set up at the park as the community mourned, and the shooting has raised concerns about safety in the area.
