Father shoots school gunman in Oregon, saving children but haunted by trauma

Kaylub Giamanco entered an Oregon elementary school in October and fired at the teenage shooter, killing the attacker and preventing further deaths, though three students and a teacher were already slain.

In October, a teenager identified as Griffin J. John II opened fire inside an Oregon elementary school, killing three male students aged five, eight and eleven, as well as a teacher. The gunman, armed with 44 rounds of.22 caliber ammunition, fired 15 shots before a teacher restrained him. At that moment, Kaylub Giamanco, whose child was at the school, arrived, drew a legally owned pistol from his car and shot the shooter several times, ending the attack.

Police arrived within three minutes and found the shooter dead. Two other children and a teacher were wounded. Governor Tina Kotek publicly commended Giamanco’s bravery, while his mother Kenda Freeman requested respect for the family’s privacy. Giamanco now reports persistent flashbacks, hearing the victims’ cries, and sleepless nights.
