Fauci raised possible miscarriage risk from COVID-19 mRNA vaccine fever in 2021 texts

Newly released text messages reveal that in January 2021 Dr. Anthony Fauci expressed concern that fever and cytokine responses after a second COVID-19 mRNA vaccine dose could, in theory, be associated with miscarriage during the first trimester. The conversation, involving CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky and future surgeon general Dr. Vivek Murthy, also covered the lack of evidence favoring vaccination earlier in pregnancy and refuted the idea that mRNA vaccines could modify a person’s genes.

Fauci pointed to more than 10,000 pregnant women already vaccinated without issues and referenced guidance from the FDA, ACIP, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists allowing choice. Murthy highlighted WHO’s then-advisory against Moderna for pregnant women, prompting Walensky to flag the matter for an upcoming ACIP meeting. The messages were disclosed by Senators Ron Johnson and Rand Paul.
