FBI adds Indian national linked to Lawrence Bishnoi gang to wanted list

The FBI has placed an Indian man identified only as Kamal on its wanted fugitives list for alleged involvement with the Lawrence Bishnoi organized crime group and a federal extortion charge.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation released a notice on Thursday naming an Indian individual, referred to only as Kamal, as a wanted fugitive. Authorities allege his role in the Lawrence Bishnoi Organized Crime Group, which is believed to have originated in Punjab and to conduct operations in California and elsewhere. Kamal faces a charge of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by extortion, and a federal arrest warrant was signed on July 1, 2026, by the United States District Court for the Central District of California in Los Angeles.

The FBI’s bulletin provides Kamal’s height, weight, hair and eye color for identification, but does not disclose his full name. The agency describes the organization as a transnational criminal network engaged in extortion schemes that affect commercial activity. This listing adds Kamal to the FBI’s public wanted fugitives database.

Why it matters

It highlights a cross-border criminal network and a new federal effort to apprehend a suspect involved in extortion.
