FBI and CISA warn of AI-driven phishing attacks targeting midterm elections

The FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency have alerted election officials and the public to AI-enhanced phishing attempts that could disrupt the upcoming midterm elections.

A joint alert from the FBI and CISA cautions that malicious actors may use artificial intelligence to craft more convincing fraudulent texts and emails aimed at stealing passwords and other sensitive information. The warning highlights election officials, candidates and their political organizations as prime targets for such cyber-criminal activity. Officials stress that the use of so-called "super intelligence" could make these scams harder to detect ahead of next month’s voting.
