FBI arrests North Indian gangster Himanshu Bhau, India expects extradition soon

The FBI has taken Himanshu Bhau into custody in Nevada after a four-year hunt, and Indian authorities anticipate his transfer in the coming days.

After a four-year international manhunt, the FBI detained Himanshu Bhau, one of north India's most wanted gangsters, in the Las Vegas region of Nevada. Bhau is subject to an Interpol red notice and is wanted for a series of shootings, killings and multi-crore extortion cases in Delhi, Haryana and surrounding areas. Indian agencies provided the intelligence that led to his capture, and officials expect his extradition to India within days.

Born in Ritoli, Rohtak district, Bhau entered police records in 2020 after a failed killing attempt and briefly spent time in a juvenile observation home before escaping. He later forged alliances with the Neeraj Bawana and Naveen Bali gangs, expanding his network across Rohtak, Jhunjhunu, Sonipat and the National Capital Region. Using forged documents, he fled to Dubai and then Europe, directing his syndicate from abroad before reaching the United States via the “Dunkey Route.” His group has claimed responsibility for high-profile murders and armed attacks on businesses in Delhi-NCR.

Why it matters

The arrest brings a major criminal figure closer to justice and may curb organized crime networks operating across India and abroad.
