FBI revamps tech infrastructure and expands AI use to counter foreign threats

FBI Director Kash Patel announced a complete overhaul of the bureau's outdated tech and a surge to over 140 AI applications to counter hostile AI use by nations such as China and Russia.

According to Director Kash Patel, the FBI has undertaken a full modernization of its technology backbone, discarding years of patchwork solutions. The new system employs artificial intelligence to ingest and analyze tips from citizens and private partners in real time, eliminating the previous multi-day, manual relay process. This AI augmentation is designed to assist, not replace, human investigators and has already improved response times for thwarting terrorist and school-shooting threats.

Under Patel's leadership, the bureau expanded from only two or three experimental AI projects to over 140 active use cases. He emphasized that the agency will continue to operate within legal limits and collaborate with industry, noting recent self-regulation efforts by tech firms. The move reflects growing concerns about hostile AI use by adversarial states such as China and Russia.
