FBI Seizes Devices from Mark Walter and Guggenheim Executive Ahead of Lakers Deal

Federal agents took Mark Walter’s phone and laptop, along with Guggenheim Investments president Dina DiLorenzo’s phone, as part of a probe into Walter’s financial empire before the $12.5 billion Lakers sale.

Federal investigators took Mark Walter’s phone and laptop, as well as the phone of Guggenheim Investments President Dina DiLorenzo, in a coordinated action last year. The move is part of a broader federal examination of Walter’s extensive business network, including his insurance companies and the $260 billion asset-management firm he leads. Authorities are focusing on how Guggenheim records revenue from its private-investments division and on related transactions across Walter-controlled entities.

The device seizures came months before Walter finalized a $12.5 billion agreement to sell the Los Angeles Lakers to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger. No charges have been filed against Walter or DiLorenzo, and officials have not disclosed how far the probe has progressed. Guggenheim responded that its auditors have delivered clean opinions on its 2024 and 2025 consolidated statements. The investigation adds to previous regulatory scrutiny of Guggenheim, including a 2015 SEC settlement and a 2018-2019 probe that ended without penalties.
