FC Nantes poised for sale to European consortium for over €100 million
A provisional agreement has been reached to sell FC Nantes to a French-Portuguese-Luxembourg group, valuing the club at more than €100 million pending DNCG approval.
FC Nantes is set to change hands after Waldemar Kita, the club’s president-owner since 2007, signed a principle agreement with intermediary Paulo Tavares, who represents a French-Portuguese-Luxembourg investment group. The deal values the Ligue 2 side at over €100 million and could reach €125 million when performance-related bonuses are applied. Finalisation depends on approval by the DNCG, the French football financial watchdog, with a blocked account already holding about €30 million for the review.
Kita has voiced growing weariness following the club’s decline to 15th place in Ligue 2 after its recent relegation. While three potential buyers were considered this summer - one reportedly involving David Beckham - Tavares’s consortium emerged as the frontrunner, despite a similar 2019 bid being rejected by the DNCG.
Why it matters
The sale could reshape FC Nantes’s financial future and impact Ligue 2’s competitive landscape.
