FDA expands E. coli recall to Walmart frozen mixed berry packs in 16 states
The FDA has broadened a July E. coli recall to cover Great Value frozen Organic Triple Berry Blend sold at Walmart stores across 16 states.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that the earlier E. coli O145 recall of GreenWise Organic IQF Blueberries has been extended to include Great Value frozen Organic Triple Berry Blend, a 10-ounce mix of strawberries, blackberries and blueberries. The affected lot was supplied by Chilean firm Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. and distributed to Walmart stores in 16 states, ranging from Alabama to Wisconsin. The original blueberry recall, issued in July, stemmed from reports of 17 illnesses—including six hospitalizations—in Florida and Georgia, with the berries having been sold at Publix in several southeastern states.
To date, no cases have been tied to the mixed-berry blend. The recalled packages display UPC 7874211226 and a best-by date of Feb. 9 2028. E. coli O145 can cause severe gastrointestinal symptoms and, in vulnerable groups, hemolytic uremic syndrome. Consumers should either throw the product away or return it to Walmart for a refund.
