FDA raids Mumbai's Cafe Mondegar and other eateries over serious hygiene breaches
Inspectors from the state FDA found multiple food-safety violations at Cafe Mondegar in Colaba and suspended licences for three other establishments.
During a September 12 inspection at Cafe Mondegar in Metro House, Colaba, FDA officials identified serious deficiencies such as hot food stored below 60 °C, cold storage above 5 °C, improper thawing and inadequate rapid cooling of cooked meals, along with structural and sanitary problems. In addition, the agency suspended the licences of three other outlets—Maharashtra Biryani Centre, Tribhuvan Dairy Farm and Mahavir Cashew & Foods Pvt Ltd—for violating Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards Act. The raid forms part of an intensified statewide effort against food adulteration and safety breaches, spearheaded by FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, which also included numerous dairy product seizures and contraband gutkha interceptions across Maharashtra.
