During August 2026 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration released 26 food recall notices, raising the combined food and drug recall total to 46 for the month. This marks a notable jump from August 2025, when only 26 products (including 18 foods) were recalled, and from August 2024, when 24 products (including 19 foods) were recalled. Salmonella contamination dominated the alerts, with 12 recalls—a sixfold increase over the previous month, which saw only two salmonella-related recalls.
The latest alerts cover items such as radishes, mangos, alfalfa sprouts, granola, jalapeños, and numerous prepared dishes containing them. Additional recalls involve glass in fruit popsicles, metal fragments in sourdough, and ink contamination in tofu. The surge follows recent public health scares, including a cyclospora outbreak linked to Taylor Farms iceberg lettuce and frozen blueberry E. coli concerns, prompting questions about whether the rise reflects tighter oversight or a genuine escalation in food safety risks.
