FDA upgrades Midwest poultry egg recall to Class I, the highest risk level
Midwest Poultry Services announced a recall of about 1.6 million brown and white eggs harvested in Texas from June 6 to July 3. The eggs, identified by codes P‑1950 or 0840962 and Julian dates 157–184, were sold to foodservice and retail outlets in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and surrounding states. The Food and Drug Administration upgraded the recall to a Class I designation, the agency’s highest risk category.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has associated the eggs with a salmonella outbreak that has produced 98 cases and 26 hospitalizations in 17 states. Consumers are urged to discard or return the eggs.
