FDP councilor slapped after confronting anti-Israel chants at Oktoberfest table
FDP faction leader Jörg Hoffmann was insulted and hit in the face at Oktoberfest when he tried to stop anti-Israel slogans shouted at a table used by Die Linke’s youth group.
During Oktoberfest, Jörg Hoffmann, the FDP’s faction chair in Munich’s city council, intervened after anti-Israel chants were heard at a table assigned to Die Linke’s youth organization. When his complaint failed to stop the slogans, he alerted the tent’s management, leading security to eject both party tables. Three women who had briefly left the area returned to find their seats empty; they had shouted insults at Hoffmann, labeling him a "genocide friend," and one of them delivered a slap to his face.
Die Linke leader Stefan Jagel denounced the assault, personally apologized to Hoffmann, and clarified that the woman was merely a friend of a party member, not a member herself, promising that the incident would have consequences, including the loss of future table privileges. Mayor Dominik Krause subsequently stripped Die Linke of its Oktoberfest table for one outlet year. Hoffmann has chosen not to pursue legal action but intends to discuss the matter again in the city’s elder council.
