Fed rate call, earnings season and oil prices set to steer Indian markets this week

Analysts say the US Federal Reserve decision, corporate results and crude oil moves will dominate Indian equity sentiment, with Jio Platforms’ debut adding extra focus.

Market participants will gauge the US Federal Reserve's October 27-28 rate decision for guidance on the future path of interest rates, with most expecting rates to stay unchanged. In India, September industrial production and manufacturing data on October 28, together with a slate of quarterly results from firms like TVS Motor, Asian Paints, Trent, Sun Pharma, Bharat Electronics, Indian Oil, Bank of Baroda and GAIL India, will test the resilience of growth outlook.

The primary market will also watch Jio Platforms’ stock exchange debut, slated for the same day, as a sentiment trigger. Elevated crude oil prices amid escalating West Asian tensions threaten to raise India's energy import bill, weigh on the rupee and squeeze corporate margins. Movements in US Treasury yields and the dollar will further influence foreign capital flows into emerging markets. The previous week saw the BSE Sensex fall 1,605.44 points and the NSE Nifty drop 546.15 points in a holiday-shortened session.

Why it matters

These events could swing investor confidence, affect the rupee and shape India's economic trajectory in the near term.
