Federal agents seize trash from Ilhan Omar’s D.C. home to obtain DNA in immigration probe
Federal investigators collected garbage from Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., residence to extract DNA for an immigration-fraud case, also seizing her cellphone and subpoenaing family members.
Following a court-approved search warrant, DHS’s Homeland Security Investigations unit entered Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., residence, confiscating her cellphone and collecting discarded waste to retrieve DNA. Prosecutors are investigating claims that Omar or her father falsified her age on her naturalization application, potentially constituting immigration fraud. Subpoenas have been served on several family members, and investigators plan to submit DNA evidence to a grand jury.
ICE had been probing Omar’s case for months, including questions about her marriage to her brother. In addition, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced a financial probe into Omar’s reported multimillion-dollar net worth. The combined legal actions intensify scrutiny of the congresswoman’s immigration and financial history.
