The federal government, through PETRA, approved eight flood-mitigation schemes in Melaka worth RM1.46 billion for the 2021-2026 period.
Through the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), the federal government approved eight flood-mitigation projects in Melaka totaling RM1.46 billion for 2021-2026. The schemes cover Alor Gajah, Bandar Jasin, Bandar Merlimau, Sungai Putat, Sungai Duyong and an upgraded Krubong-Durian Tunggal pond that will also serve water-supply needs. Five of the six ongoing works are expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2027, while the final project targets completion in 2030; two others remain in design.
Flood-hotspot data show a drop from 157 in 2021 to 106 last year, and officials anticipate protecting over 50,000 people once all projects are finished. Monitoring relies on real-time river-level and rainfall data, and future plans include a RM145 million scheme awaiting approval under the 13th Malaysia Plan.
