Federal Judge Rules Trump Administration Violated International Students' Free Speech Rights

The suit referenced the case of Rümeysa Öztürk, a Turkish doctoral candidate at Tufts University who was arrested by ICE after co-authoring an op-ed critical of her campus's Israel-Palestine stance, later spending weeks in detention before winning a court victory.

The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) represented the newspaper and hailed the judgment as a crucial protection of First Amendment freedoms. Stanford’s administration has remained silent on the matter. The decision sets a legal precedent that may deter future attempts to silence non-citizen voices on campus.
