FedEx, Staples, LAZ Parking and Others Cut Hundreds of Jobs in Southern California
FedEx and several other firms announced layoffs affecting more than 500 workers across Southern California, including closures of two FedEx facilities.
FedEx disclosed that its Palm Springs and Victorville locations will close, resulting in 116 layoffs at the end of September, following a June filing that listed 57 cuts in San Diego. The carrier says employees were given advance notice and some were offered internal transfers, as it pursues a plan to combine ground and express delivery operations and target $2 billion in savings. Staples announced 109 job eliminations at a La Mirada fulfillment center, while its Essendant unit reported 99 layoffs in Sacramento and four in Perris, adding to over 1,100 cuts in other states.
LAZ Parking revealed a reduction of 247 positions from sites near Los Angeles International Airport and Ontario International Airport. These moves join earlier FedEx closures in the Bay Area and follow recent Amazon delivery partner shutdowns, reflecting a wider trend of workforce reductions in the logistics sector.
