FedEx to spend $150 million on new Delhi air-cargo hub boosting capacity tenfold

FedEx disclosed plans to invest roughly $150 million (over Rs 1,400 crore) in an integrated air-cargo hub covering 2.3 lakh square feet at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. The groundbreaking ceremony, held in the presence of civil aviation minister K Rammohan Naidu, marked the start of construction at GMR Cargo City. Once operational, the facility is expected to increase package processing from about 600 to 5,000 per hour, with potential for further scaling.
Naidu praised the partnership, noting a near-40 percent rise in cargo volumes and the government's aim to make India a global freight hub. Civil aviation secretary Samir Kumar Sinha said steps are being taken to eliminate bottlenecks in air-cargo movement. FedEx positioned the hub as a long-term investment to improve connectivity for businesses in North and East India.
