Feijóo proposes full public guarantees and tax breaks to aid young homebuyers

Alberto Núñez Feijóo announced a housing package aimed at people younger than 40, featuring public guarantees that could cover up to the full purchase price and a dedicated "young home savings" account. The plan, prepared by PP deputy minister Juan Bravo, also proposes tax cuts of between 10,000 and 15,000 euros on transaction taxes, about 9,000 euros of income-tax relief over four years, and a roughly 2,000-euro boost from the savings account.

Feijóo blamed the Sánchez government for inflating house prices and pointed to a chronic shortage, citing that one third of previously offered rentals have disappeared. He presented the proposal alongside Madrid mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida at a new municipal development of 1,200 public units that will house around 4,000 residents. The PP argues that broader measures such as land liberalisation, faster licensing and reduced bureaucracy could eventually enable the construction of one million homes and create hundreds of thousands of jobs.
