Felda task force to sell plantation and properties to fund members' claim payouts

Deputy minister Mohamad Alamin announced that a joint task force will sell the Samarahan plantation and other assets to help settle over RM400 million in share-withdrawal claims from about 15,000 Felda members.

Deputy entrepreneur and cooperatives development minister Mohamad Alamin told parliament that a joint task force will oversee the sale of the KPF-owned Samarahan plantation in Sarawak, either wholly or partially, along with shoplots and land parcels. The task force includes Felda, the Malaysia Co-operative Societies Commission and KPF. KPF has already disposed of its holdings in eight FGV group firms, generating RM229 million.

Share-withdrawal claims from members total more than RM400 million, with over RM200 million already settled and about 15,000 members affected. The government aims to finish KPF’s restructuring by the close of 2026. A revised business model featuring FGV Palm Industries is projected to contribute an additional RM42 million annually, strengthening KPF’s ability to meet the remaining claims without harming its operations.

Why it matters

The asset sales aim to protect the finances of a major Malaysian cooperative while delivering on large payouts owed to thousands of members.
