Female Garda Hospitalized After Early-Morning Assault Near Dublin Castle
A female Garda on duty at Dublin Castle was attacked in the early hours of Wednesday, was taken to hospital and the suspect was later arrested.
During a security operation for Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union, a female member of An Garda Síochána was assaulted by a lone male at roughly 2.30 am on September 23 while posted at Cork Hill, Dublin 2, close to Dublin Castle. She was rushed to hospital for treatment and is currently off duty. The attacker fled but was subsequently arrested, charged and will appear before the courts at a later date.
Gardaí said the probe remains active. The presidency, running from July 1 to December 31, has earmarked €125 million for enhanced policing, including new cars, motorbikes and counter-drone capabilities. The incident highlights the security challenges surrounding high-profile EU meetings.
