Ferrara’s municipal government has set up the Anti-Maranza Unit (NAM) to address street crime linked to the Maranza subculture.
In Ferrara, the municipal administration launched the Anti-Maranza Unit, called NAM, to tackle the rise of Maranza-related street crime. Mayor Alan Fabbri said the task force will bring together legal advisers, mental-health professionals, social workers, local police and security specialists to focus on prevention, monitoring and enforcement. Maranzas are described as disaffected second-generation Italians of North African descent who adopt a gang-like image and have been linked to recent riots in Milan and other unrest in Bologna.
