Ferrari unveils upgraded engine for Monza as Hamilton eyes victory

During a public appearance in central Milan, Lewis Hamilton said Ferrari’s new engine package gives them a realistic chance to win at Monza, their home Grand Prix. The Italian team received a second development opportunity from the FIA after being judged over four per cent behind Red Bull’s benchmark, and will install the upgrade on both cars for the weekend. This will be Hamilton’s and Charles Leclerc’s fourth power unit of the 2026 season, the last before any penalty-related restrictions apply.

Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur described the upgrade as a step in the right direction and stressed the need for flawless execution on the demanding circuit. Meanwhile, Mercedes’ title-leading driver Kimi Antonelli will start from the back of the grid after receiving an engine penalty, adding further intrigue to the race.
