Fidesz accuses Magyar Péter and Tisza Party of misleading the public on the economy

The Fidesz parliamentary group says Prime Minister Magyar Péter and the Tisza Party have lied about fuel prices, state debt and budget deficits, contradicting the government's own claims.

The Fidesz faction criticized a morning Facebook video posted by Prime Minister Magyar Péter, where he highlighted a reduction in the state budget deficit and ongoing efforts to cut debt and fuel prices. According to Fidesz, everyday evidence shows that the government and the Tisza Party have misrepresented economic realities, with Hungarian families confronting the year's highest fuel costs at pumps. The opposition notes that state debt is at a record high and the budget deficit has not been this large since 2010.

It further claims the Tisza Party has repeatedly withdrawn campaign promises, including a double family supplement, promised wage hikes, a lower VAT on healthy foods, and a 480-forint fuel price. Instead, the party is pursuing austerity measures, cutting ministry budgets and witnessing a decline in investments, leading to factory closures and job losses. Fidesz concluded that these broken pledges are driving higher household expenses and increasing national indebtedness.
