Fidji Simo joins Nscale board as AI infrastructure firm eyes IPO

Former OpenAI product chief Fidji Simo has been added to the board of London-based AI infrastructure company Nscale, which is preparing for a possible initial public offering.

Fidji Simo, who previously led product and business at OpenAI, has been appointed to the board of directors of Nscale, a London-based AI infrastructure provider gearing up for a potential IPO. The move was facilitated by board member Sheryl Sandberg after Simo departed OpenAI following an extended medical leave, and she will remain a part-time adviser to OpenAI while avoiding any Nscale discussions that could involve the AI firm.

Nscale, founded in 2024, builds and operates AI data centers and supplies GPU cloud capacity to labs and enterprises, with projects underway in Norway and the United States. Recent activities include the acquisition of Anyscale and a roughly $45 billion six-year deal to provide Anthropic with 460 MW of power from a West Virginia facility using Nvidia’s Vera Rubin chips. Board colleagues also include former UK Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Susan Decker, alongside Sandberg. Simo’s prior experience includes leading Instacart to its 2023 public listing and a decade at Meta.

Why it matters

Simo's addition brings deep scaling expertise to Nscale as the firm expands AI compute capacity and readies for an IPO.
