FIFA President Infantino abandons disputed World Cup investment scheme

FIFA chief Gianni Infantino confirmed that the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise, a commercial entity intended to offer private investors stakes in the World Cup, has been scrapped. The initiative, promoted as a way to generate revenue for less affluent member associations, triggered immediate resistance from several continental confederations, notably UEFA, CONCACAF and the AFC. Tensions escalated after chief adviser Carlos Cordeiro resigned, signaling his disagreement with the plan.

In a statement, Infantino said the project had become a source of division that undermined its original purpose. He emphasized that FIFA’s mission remains to unite and develop football worldwide, especially in nations needing support. Going forward, he intends to engage all parties in dialogue to heal the split and continue advancing the sport.
