Fifth alleged victim to testify against Alan Jones in indecent assault trial

A fifth complainant will describe alleged indecent assault by former broadcaster Alan Jones during a court hearing.

During the ongoing trial of former talk-back host Alan Jones, a fifth accuser is set to testify that the broadcaster kissed him and groped his bottom when the teen was 17. Crown prosecutor Georgina Wright explained that the young man had contacted Jones about his family's financial difficulties before being invited to Jones’s Southern Highlands home, where the alleged assault occurred. Jones’s barrister Gabrielle Bashir contends the teenager’s mother prompted the complaint after Jones ceased financial support.

Jones, now 85, maintains he is innocent of all 21 indecent assault and sexual touching charges. The case, which started on August 3, could continue through November and possibly December. The trial follows earlier allegations spanning 2003-2020 involving other men who claim Jones engaged in similar misconduct.

Why it matters

The testimony could determine the outcome of a high-profile sexual assault case involving a prominent media figure.
