Fiji minister's explicit video resurfaces, prompting prime minister's challenge

A one-minute explicit clip posted on a male cabinet minister's Facebook was removed after sparking a weekend frenzy, marking the second such leak under Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.

An explicit one-minute video was posted to a male cabinet minister's Facebook profile on Friday evening and removed shortly thereafter, igniting widespread discussion on Fijian social media. The minister has not spoken about the incident, nor clarified whether the post resulted from a hack or an accidental upload, and it is unclear if the Online Safety Commission has been alerted. This incident is the second intimate recording to surface during Sitiveni Rabuka's tenure, the first involving a female minister whose leak in December 2024 led to her suspension and later a new portfolio. In response, Prime Minister Rabuka publicly challenged anyone with evidence to present it, offering the minister a chance to defend himself.

Why it matters

The scandal raises questions about privacy, government accountability and the handling of personal misconduct by public officials in Fiji.
