Filip Turek says he tasked environment minister with cleaning up alleged chemical threat in Šumava

Ahead of an extraordinary press conference by the Ministry of the Environment, MP Filip Turek claimed that a hazardous substance had been found in the Šumava area and that he had asked the environment minister to handle its removal. He later clarified that the material was fosgen, a toxic, colourless gas, after initially mentioning yperit. Turek emphasized that the issue was not raised for electoral gain, noting his lack of involvement in any municipal elections.

He also cited a collaboration with docent Wasserbauer in bringing the matter to the minister's attention. Subsequent statements from the defence ministry identified residues such as arsenic, mercury, dioxins, furans and chlorinated solvents from past Czechoslovak army drills. According to Deník N, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš rebuked Turek, insisting that only Minister Igor Červený should represent the ministry. Turek continues to use ministry offices for his roles, including chairing the Government Council for Permit Yields and serving as deputy chair of the State Environmental Fund, and will vacate the premises only if dismissed.
