Hungary's finance minister, Kármán András, has selected Slánicz Bélá to become the president of the Magyar Államkincstár, with the minister himself set to vacate the role on Friday. Slánicz boasts more than 20 years of executive experience in sectors such as insurance, pension fund management, credit and financial services, information technology, and project management consulting. Kármán outlined expectations for the new leader to drive a high-quality, modernised Treasury that can process payments more quickly and flexibly, and to revamp the antiquated pension-payment framework.
Additionally, Slánicz will be responsible for addressing the Treasury's current IT shortcomings, a move prompted by a summer cyber-attack that targeted the tax authority's system. The appointment signals a push toward greater efficiency and digital resilience within Hungary's state financial apparatus.
