During a session of the Financial Stability and Development Council, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman pressed financial regulators to hasten the repayment of unclaimed bank deposits, shares, dividends, insurance and pension assets to their rightful owners. The council examined the Financial Sector Cyber Security Strategy, a joint effort to create unified cyber standards and strengthen risk management for emerging technologies such as AI, cloud computing and quantum computing.
Participants also explored simplifying and digitising KYC procedures, improving digital onboarding for NRIs and foreign portfolio investors, and expanding public digital platforms like the account aggregator and Unified Lending Interface for MSMEs. The meeting highlighted the need to lower intermediation costs, refine credit guarantee schemes, and enhance regulatory responsiveness. Sitharaman urged that, given rising geopolitical tensions and volatile global bond yields, the council convene more regularly to safeguard financial stability.
