FINAS urges 2027 budget to back Malaysia's film and creative sectors
FINAS chairman Hans Isaac called on the government to keep funding the film and creative content industry in Budget 2027, stressing its role for a 30,000-strong workforce.
At the China-Malaysia Film Festival 2026, FINAS chairman Hans Isaac appealed for continued government backing of the film and creative content sector in the upcoming Budget 2027, noting the industry's estimated 30,000 workers. He argued that any allocation should be viewed as support for the whole national film ecosystem, not merely FINAS itself. Isaac listed current initiatives—including the MADANI Youth Fund, Creative Content Fund and the National Citra Production Special Fund—and said these programmes need regular evaluation to stay relevant amid digital and consumption shifts.
He also said FINAS is exploring ways to optimise its Hulu Kelang complex for training, talent development and shared facilities, subject to feasibility and approval. Additionally, he mentioned ongoing refinement of the National Film Policy to boost competitiveness. The budget is slated for presentation by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Oct 9.
