Finglas community mourns Romanian woman found dead in early-morning incident

A 48-year-old Romanian woman, Loredana Morosanu, was discovered dead at a Finglas home early Thursday, and a man in his 40s has been arrested.

Early Thursday morning, Gardaí arrived at a residence on Melville Terrace in Finglas after an incident report and found the lifeless body of 48-year-old Romanian native Loredana Morosanu. Morosanu, who had only recently taken up residence there and worked at Hickey’s Pharmacy, is believed to have died a violent death; a post-mortem examination is set for the next day. Police arrested a man in his 40s around 11 am, who remains in custody as detectives examine the scene, which has been preserved for forensic analysis.

The community, still scarred by the 2021 murder of Jennifer Poole on nearby Melville Drive, expressed shock and grief, with People Before Profit councillor Conor Reddy describing the loss as “heartbreaking” and urging a vigil to support residents. Gardaí have appealed for witnesses who were in the area between midnight and 5 am, including anyone with dash-cam footage, and provided contact numbers for tips.

Why it matters

The death highlights ongoing safety concerns in Fingras and revives community trauma from a prior local homicide.
