Finland signs $130 million deal with Saab for next-gen RBS 70 NG air-defence missiles
Finland has agreed to buy Saab's RBS 70 NG man-portable air-defence system in a contract worth about $130 million.
Helsinki concluded a procurement agreement with Saab for the RBS 70 NG man-portable air-defence system, valued at SEK 1.2 billion ($130 million). The next-generation launcher upgrades the legacy RBS 70 with an unjammable laser-guided missile, automatic target tracker, night-operation capability and a range of about 9 km at speeds near Mach 2. Designed for modular integration, it can be mounted on various vehicles or operated remotely, expanding Finland's short-range air-defence layer.
Finland already fields Stinger, the original RBS 70, Crotale, NASAMS and the recently acquired Israeli David’s Sling for longer-range threats. Adding the RBS 70 NG strengthens the country's ability to counter Russian fighter jets and kamikaze drones, bolstering NATO's northern flank.
