Finnish Air Force speeds up deployment of first F-35 fighters during NATO exercise
Finnish Air Force commander Timo Herranen ordered the swift operational use of the first F-35 jets, three of which are now flying to Rovaniemi.
During the NATO air defence main exercise, Finnish Air Force commander Timo Herranen instructed that the initial F-35 fighters be made operational without delay. Three jets, identified as JF-510, JF-511 and JF-512, are being flown from Texas by American pilots and will land in Rovaniemi after a stopover in the Azores. Finnish pilots who completed F-35 instructor training at Ebbing, Arkansas, will return to train additional crews at home and can conduct operational flights if security demands.
Simultaneously, the existing Hornet squadron is expected to intercept the new aircraft. A reception ceremony for the fighters is scheduled in Rovaniemi.
