Finnish authorities order Google subsidiary to halt data-center preparations in Muhos and Kajaani
The Finnish Safety and Surveillance Authority told Tuike Finland Oy, representing Google, to stop work on data-center projects in Muhos and Kajaani until environmental assessments are completed.
The Finnish Safety and Surveillance Authority (LVV) issued an order on Tuesday directing Tuike Finland Oy, the local representative of Google, to cease all preparatory work on data-center developments in Muhos and Kajaani. The agency argued that the environmental impact assessment procedures mandated by law have not been completed, making further work unlawful. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo commented that the investment is valuable for Finland but must adhere to legal standards, describing the breach as unfortunate.
He also noted that regulators need sufficient resources to enforce legislation. Environment and Climate Minister Sari Multala echoed the call for strict compliance during a media interview. The directive gives the companies a short period to address the assessment gap before any further activity can resume.
