Finnish authorities say GPS jamming and wind diverted Ukrainian drones into national airspace
Four Ukrainian military drones that entered Finnish airspace in spring were off-course due to GNSS jamming and strong winds, Finnish police and border guards said.
In March and April, four Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles were found crashed in Finland after being diverted from their intended route toward Russia. Finnish police and the Border Guard determined that the UAVs were launched as part of Ukraine's counter-measures against Russian aggression. At the time of their flight, strong GNSS jamming was detected in the eastern Gulf of Finland, and prevailing winds further pushed the drones off course.
Each drone was equipped with explosives, yet none resulted in injuries or property loss. The prosecutor's office concluded the investigations, finding no basis for criminal liability. The incidents highlight the risks of electronic interference and weather on drone operations near contested regions.
