Finnish regulators shut down Helsinki aesthetic clinic over illegal drugs and safety breaches

A surprise inspection by the Licensing and Supervisory Agency, assisted by the Finnish Medicines Agency (Fimea) and the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes), revealed that Medical Centre Estetic Oy in Helsinki was using several unlicensed pharmaceuticals, such as botulinum toxin and hyaluronidase, and promoting intravenous NAD+ infusions without Finnish approval. Inspectors noted that many of these products were stored in areas accessible to non-medical staff and that the clinic could not prove that botulinum toxin injections were always performed under a doctor's direct supervision.

Further deficiencies involved the handling of patient records, with required documents missing and privacy risks identified, as well as incomplete CE markings and a lack of a medical-device register. Senior inspector Toni Honkakorpi said the findings indicated a systemic lack of expertise and processes to ensure safety. The agency deemed the clinic's response insufficient and ordered an immediate halt to all healthcare activities, echoing earlier actions against another Helsinki-area aesthetic provider, Nordicshape.
