FIR lodged against Mevani and seven others over alleged intimidation in Gujarat
Police filed an FIR against Mevani, Yunus Parmar and six others for allegedly threatening a BJP campaigner during the Gandhinagar municipal elections.
On October 8, BJP campaigner Bhavesh Bhavsar alleged that he was threatened by Congress candidate Yunus Parmar and his supporters at Sanjari Park in Pethapur. Following a complaint by Police Inspector AM Desai, the Pethapur police station registered an FIR on the evening of the municipal election day, naming Mevani, Parmar and seven others. The filing accuses the group of unlawful assembly, rioting, criminal intimidation and other offenses, and notes that they recorded the episode and circulated it online to stir communal tension.
The complaint also claims the actions contravened a notification issued by the Additional District Magistrate, Gandhinagar. Police confirmed that no one was taken into custody when the FIR was lodged. The case coincided with voting for the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation across 11 wards.
